September Attribute is COURAGE.

I will stand up for my beliefs and principles and face challenges, fear and difficulty with fortitude.

WHAT IS COURAGE?

Courage is demonstrated by people who stand up for what they believe in their heart to be the right thing to do, even when others don't support them and might try to convince them that they are wrong.

I WILL: continue to do what I know to be right, even when it would be easier to follow another path.

I WILL: ensure that my feeling of “I can” is stronger than my feeling of "I can't".

I WILL: take risks to do the right thing, even when it might challenge the attitudes and behaviour of others.

“Courage is never to let your actions be influenced by your fears.”

SOCIAL JUSTICE DAY

With our partners from United Way, Neighbourhood Network, the Town of EG and the very hard work of Program manager, Christine Stewart and her Youth Task Force we developed and facilitated an amazing day for over 250 grade 6,7,8 students from Mount Albert Public School in EG.
The half-day session began with a rallying session in the gym and a keynote speech from Jefferson Daye, a Liberian Refugee who shared his story and journey to come to Canada with a very engaged audience.
We then broke the groups out into workshops that covered both local agencies work as well as global ones.
Presenters included- Children of Hope Uganada, Loft Street Outreach and 360 kids, Milk Bags Unlimited, Global Medic, Community Veterinary Outreach, Smiley the Blind Therapy dog, New Leaf Living and Learning, Sutton Youth Shelter and the Sharon Temple Museum. These workshops gave the students an opportunity to learn about the challenges and struggles and the opportunities faced by many in our community.
The overall group then gathered again in the gym for a final wrap up, challenge to look outside themselves and see what they can do in their local and global community to “Change the World” .
The residents of New Leaf then led everyone in a drum circle and several songs they had prepared.
This was an amazing morning and will help these students to take up the challenge of seeing what actions they can take to make a difference in their community.
